Whole Spirit, Whole Body: A Western Shaman’s Guide
March 13, 2013 ,05:00 PM - March 13, 2013 ,06:30 PM
You want to advance on your spiritual path. You want to lose weight. You want to run a marathon. You want to win a marathon. You want to know your purpose. You want to feel better than you have in years. Brant Secunda, the only Westerner recognized by the Huichol tribe of Mexico as a shaman, sees people with goals like these every week. And what he does in response defies logic, conventional medicine and science. He uses what’s known in the West as “energy medicine” to restore balance to their minds, bodies and spirits.
How does it work? And how could it cure what ails you—even if you don’t know what that is? ("It doesn’t matter whether you believe in it. It’ll work anyway,” says Secunda.) That’s the focus of this intimate 90-minute event, in which Secunda will lay out what this ancient healing method has to offer our society and people like you who are open to a new way of inhabiting your body, mind and spirit.
As Stephen Covey, best-selling author of The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, says, “Don’t for a moment think this is only about your health. It’s about everything that makes you—your passion and enthusiasm for life. Your ability to achieve. Your ambitions, hopes, dreams, and goals.”

Brant regularly writes for various international print and online publications. He has been featured on television, radio and in numerous books. Along with his long-time student, Ironman Triathlon World Champion Mark Allen, Brant co-authored the award-winning book Fit Soul, Fit Body: 9 Keys to a Healthier, Happier You.
Shamanic healer and inspiring teacher
Brant Secunda completed a 12-year apprenticeship with the late Don José Matsuwa in 1978 to become a shaman and ceremonial leader in the Huichol Indian tradition. Members of the international medical, spiritual and educational communities, including the World Health Organization, have recognized Brant’s commitment, as well as his knowledge.
Ever since Brant began teaching, people have traveled from all corners of the globe to be a part of the community he creates at each workshop, seminar or retreat. The way in which he brings people together, allows for anyone to gain a sense of the ancient village lifestyle, which is so often missing from our daily life.
Healing through sound
Having gone through a tradional training, Brant learned the ancient songs of the Huichol shamans. Passed down since time immemorial, Don José Matsuwa taught Brant the intricate complexities of these chants. They are used for healing and in ceremony, to call upon the spiritual powers of nature.
About Fit Soul, Fit Body by Brant Secunda with Ironman champion Mark Allen:
Let’s face it: fitness goes far beyond how long it takes to walk or run a mile. When you’re stressed out, emotionally drained, overworked, overweight and underappreciative of your physical body, you can’t get much of anything accomplished—at work, at home, on the race track, wherever and in whatever capacity. Put simply, when you’re spiritually unfit, life is a greater challenge. That mythical “balance” you’ve always dreamed of achieving is just that — a myth. But not anymore.
Mark Allen was one of the top triathletes in the world but struggled to get past the barriers preventing him from winning the grueling Ironman World Championship triathlon in Kona, Hawaii.
Then he began studying with Brant Secunda, healer and teacher in the Huichol Indian tradition of Mexico. Brant is the only Westerner to have completed a 12-year apprenticeship with Don José Matsuwa, the revered Huichol Indian shaman. Brant taught Mark the spiritual and healing exercises that allowed him to integrate his physical and psychological fitness.
Mark went on to win a never-before-achieved six Ironman triathlons in a row and was called the “World’s Fittest Man” by Outside magazine.
Now, Brant and Mark have integrated their wisdom into one book, providing practical tools you can adapt to your lifestyle and achieve results you never thought possible.

What Stephen Covey, best-selling author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, has to say about Fit Soul, Fit Body:
Mark Allen was unstoppable not because he was physically the best, but because he was emotionally and physically at the top of his game. Aside from the typical sacrifices made and the adversities overcome, he had learned, under the tutelage of the renowned shaman Brant Secunda, how to train his mind alongside his body. What Mark gained from Brant’s guidance led to his profound metamorphosis, not only as a world-class athlete, but also—and more imporant—as a human being.
This book could very well be its own habit in my bestselling book,The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. I’d call it “Embrace the Wisdom of Mark Allen and Brant Secunda.” Seriously. Their philosophy is perfectly aligned with what I’ve ever taught. They are a living example of what it means to be fit from the inside out, from the depths of the inner spirit to the outer symbols of health and wellness.
Among the questions Mark and Brant address that I think you will find as illuminating as I have are: Where will we draw strength from when we want to quit? Are we the person our dreams demand us to be to achieve them? You will be amazed by the nuggets of wisdom Mark and Brant reveal in their book, ones that can help you to do or change anything you want in life. … Consider this the ultimate guide to complete well-being—and instrucive book on how to reach your highest level of health and contentment through small, focused changes.
